Sygma Turkey. By December 2022, the Karapinar solar plant is expected to provide 1.35 GW of installed capacity. The scope of work includes design, engineering, project management, site management and commissioning of this Turkish solar project. Moreover, GE Renewable Energy has already commissioned 267 MW and is about to start phases 2 and 3 for the next 1080 MW.
The solar complex will help Turkey meet its goal of bringing 10 GW of solar capacity online between 2017 and 2027, according to the International Energy Agency. The solar power plant is the largest solar installation in Turkey, about 11 km long and 3 km wide, which is equivalent to more than 4,600 soccer fields.
Highest solar potential
Turkey is among the countries with the highest solar potential with about 7.5 hours of sunshine per day. The solar potential is very high in Turkey, especially in the southeastern provinces of Anatolia and the Mediterranean.
The Karapinar solar power plant is a photovoltaic power plant under construction in the province of Konya in central Turkey. It is expected that more than 1,500 people will be employed during the project. When the entire plant is commissioned, approximately 100 people will be employed to manage the operational work.
GE and UK Export Finance have reached an agreement to finance the Kalyon Enerji solar power plant. The UK government made new commitments to remove climate damage from global finance and take action to support the global energy transition at the UN COP26 climate summit.
